2019 Movies — Top 5, Most Pleasantly Surprised, Most Worth Watching, and Most Overhyped

Uhh, yeah, I know I’m way late. What can I say. ;)

This year I watched 83 movies, compared to 81 last year. Clearly, I’m improving in my life. Below is the wisdom I gained and will bestow upon you.

Top 5 of 2019

1. Avengers: Endgame — I don’t care what the critics say. They made over 20 movies that culminated into this epic and that’s never been done before.
2. Dawn Wall — Way better than the overhyped Free Solo that won an Oscar for best documentary, this story about Tommy Caldwell has plot twists worthy of M. Night Shyamalan.
3. The Shadow
4. Knives Out
5. The King (Netflix) & Mary Queen of Scots

Most Pleasantly Surprised

1. Into the Spiderverse
2. Mystery Murder (Netflix)
3. Always Be My Maybe (Netflix) — The Keanu Reeves scenes alone are worth watching. Add to that some inside asian upbringing jokes and they get me.
4. Someone Great (Netflix)
5. I Am Mother (Netflix) — A sci-fi, post apocalyptic movie that had my movie circle discussing it for a long time. Watch it if only to debate the merits of Mother.

Worth Watching

1. Fyre (Netflix) — You’ve heard about it, but until you see the disgusting behavior of Billy McFarland, you haven’t experienced the full Fyre effect.
2. Shadow of the Moon (Netflix) — This trippy murder investigation has been engaged and then when the ending pulled it together, it had be trippin’ too.

5. A Marriage Story (Netflix)

Most Overhyped

1. Wandering Earth (Netflix) — The second highest grossing movie in China, this disaster of a movie (pun intended) should be avoided. Bad acting, bad story, just bad. Made in China, indeed.
